Slow Shared folder

I shared the folder "All users/My Docs" or something for my local
network to be able to access shared media of my media center 2005
computer...

But browsing this folder from a client is incredibly slow... It's like I'm
on modem.

My client is a fresh install XP pro updated to the latest patches.. should
I disable QoS packet scheduler or something in TCP?

Any ideas ?

How many files in this folder?

Hmm I have 6-7 directories at the root, each one containing 3-4 directories,
and each directories
contains 10 to 100 files.. but just browsing root directories is slow..

FYI

It happened to be the cable.. I was using it for 2 years but now its dead..
Plus, I was receiving "Path is too deep" errors..
