Slow running on D-Drive

Hi,

I need to enable DMA on my D-Drive (advice from pcpitstop)
I do know how to enable DMA (in theory) but am having
problems with value types in the Registry Editor and need
a 'fool-proof' guide to completing this operation.

I know how to get to the registry editor and I do know how
to access the correct registry key. I know also that:

On the Edit menu, click Add Value, (see 'types of value
note below')and then add the following registry value:

Value Name: EnableUDMA66
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 1

Then:

Quit Registry Editor.
Restart the computer.

I'm OK so far!

But am stuck, (I think) on 'types of value'.
Can you please help me out?

I found on Help menu:
"On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click the type
of value you want to add: String Value, Binary Value, or
DWORD Value"

So WHAT do I want for the values?

Is THIS right: ????
Value Name: EnableUDMA66 (is it STRING?)
Data Type: REG_DWORD (is it DWord?)
Value: 1 (is it BINARY?)

Can I have an 'idiot-proof' answer for this last stage - I
don't want to mess up now! I don't have a windows 2000
installation CD, so if I get it wrong, I think I'll have a

Thanks for getting me through the last stage!!!!

I just answered you in another thread. Can't you find it?

Yes, I found it, thanks!!!!, but am STILL having a slight
problem in that, while you've answered my questions I'm
still a bit wary of proceding without a STEP-BY-STEP guide

Something like, e.g., "having located registry key,
1.click Edit menu
2. click New
3 D-Word value ....." (and then what?)

Many thanks for your patience and advice!

Best wishes,

Tony

Something like, e.g., "having located registry key,
1.click Edit menu

1. Locate the registry key.
2. Left-click once on this key.
3. Put the mouse in the pane in the right side of the screen.
4. Right-click and select New, then "DWORD Value".
5. At this point you'll see a "New Value" key added in the
right pane.
6. Simply start typing the new name (EnableUDMA66) and it
will overwrite this "New Value". When you're done typing the
new name, hit ENTER twice, then enter the number "1".

That's all there is to it.
