Slow ribbon response to ALT press

Greetings,

When I press the ALT key in Excel, the letters (they look like ToolTips but
I think they're called ScreenTips) appear on the ribbon under the tab
headers. H for Home, A for Data, etc. The idea is that once you press the
indicated key, then the tab comes forward and the ScreenTips appear for the
individual commands on that tab.

The probelm I'm having is that there is a significant delay before the
ScreenTips appear. Has anyone else had this problem? It's a problem because
I'm using the screentips as a reference to remind me what keystrokes to hit
to get specific commands, but it's sometimes faster to use a mouse than to
wait for the screen response.

The computer's an otherwise healthy Dual Core Dell that seems to run pretty
fast. I've turned off graphical options like cleartype, and other options,
but that hasn't changed anything. Searching the KB also hasn't helped.

This is severe enough that it's making me want to stop using an otherwise
very useful upgrade.

Help!!

Thanks,

Mike Hayes

Mike,
All I can report is negative. Tried it on 2 systems and the response was
virtually instantaneous:
Home built AMD X2 4800+ 2GB RAM, Windows XP Pro/Office 2007
and
HP d4650y Core2 Duo E6600 2GB RAM, Vista Ultimate/Office 2007
and for the second one, I was accessing the machine remotely across the LAN
and there just wasn't a noticeable delay.
