Slow response to typing and cursor movement

All of a sudden, I am having a very slow response when I
have to type information on a web page. Likewise all
movement or scrolling is very "jerky" and response to
clicking the mouse is also very slow. This situation seems
to be much more prevalent on web pages that contain a lot
of pictures or graphics or when I have multiple windows
open. I have been running 6.0 for quit a while. I have
done the usual things like "repair IE", used Spybot to
remove any offenders, cleared cookies and cache,
defragged, and checked my system for viruses. I even
removed 6.0 and when back to my previous version 5.x but
that didn't help. So, I have reinstalled 6.0 but it is
still acting the same way.

Anyone have any thoughts on this.

Do you update Spybot before each and every use?
