Slow Response to pulling down the Roaming Profile

We have recently installed a Windows2000 Server into our
organisation and we have hit a problem in that the PC's
logging on to the domain seem to load up the background
very quickly but then take up to 2 minutes to bring up
the recognised desktop. Sources have told us to exclude
certain Internet based directories from the roaming
profile but this does not seem to have resolved the
issue. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Internet directories are stored under Local Settings and are not transfered
to the server. I would enable netlogon logging
(http://support.microsoft.com/?id=109626) to see what is happening during
logon process.
