slow opening picture folders

My issue is with opening picture folders. My old
computer, a Compac P2, 512 Ram 30g hard drive would open
the folders lightening fast. My new computer, Dell P4 1g
RAM 100g hard drive takes much longer. I am not having a
problem opening the individual picture files. Just when I
click on the folder, it takes a long time for time for
each file to display so it CAN be opened. Everything else
is fast. All programs are fast, Internet is fast etc. I
have done disc defrag etc. I have tried Dell support and
followed their "suggestions" but nothing has helped.

Just a thought Dell shoulda run you through it,right
click on My Picture,,,properties,,,Attributes should be
read only-if idden is checked uncheck it,,,advance
button,,,if compress contents to save disc space is
checked-uncheck it-this will cause your problem,,,the
only thing that should be checked is For Fast Searching
box,,,OK,,,APPLY,,,OK----that should take care of it,now
try opening your pictures,(you may have to reboot for
change to take effect).
