Slow Logins

I am having very slow logins on our networked PC's (approx 5 lagging
minutes). We do use roaming profiles but it looks as if there are some
DNS issues.

Here are my finding, the domain name we are logging into is set to:
USA (example not full domain name)
But when I right click on MyComputer on the User PCs the domain shows
up as USA.com.

Do this mean they are pointing to an external location. If so, How can
I correct this?

Please provide details as I am not an expert. Thank you in advance!

Greg

Run "ipconfig /all" from a command prompt on Windows 2000, 2003 or XP boxes.
Check the IP addess of the DNS servers. The DNS servers should be the the
one(s) on your network that contain the domain SRV records and NOT an ISP
DNS server.

This can occur due to DNS misconfiguration. All servers and workstations
should specify the internal AD-integrated DNS server's IP address in their
network settings. The AD-integrated DNS server should be set up with
forwarders to several public DNS servers for external resolution.

See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;300202 for more
info.

What Lanwench and Marc said -- goes double.

Also double check the DCs with DCDiag to ensure that the DNS server(s)
are (all) dynamic and that all DCs are properly registered.

Most DC replications issues and authentication issues in Win2000+ are DNS
related (assuming the net works at all.)
