Here is my problem. I have looked everywhere but cannont find anything about it. When I login to my account in windows xp pro after a cold boot (doesn't happen any other time) it takes forever to load up my firewall software and antivirus. Now if I unplug the ethernet connection to my dsl modem and try to log in (from cold boot) it loads immediatly. Even if I cold boot and get the login screen and then unplug the connection it boots immediatly. What could the problem be? Please help. Thank you for taking the time to look at this problem.

Possible cause is your ethernet connection negotiating for an IP address.
You can assign one yourself and cut the loading time.

Open Network Connections and right-click Local Area Connection. Select
properties.
Highlight TCP/IP and click on Properties.
Use the following IP address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet mask should automatically assign 255.255.255.0
OK your way out and reboot.
