Has anyone been experiencing slow login times to Windows 2000 server from a Windows XP workstation after the installation of service pack4?

Since you mentioned SP4, my first thought and willing to bet my paycheck
that your AD DNS domain name is a single label name (domain rather than
domain.com). XP machines, specifically, have problems resolving single label
names and if they are on an AD network, then the problem becomes more
evident.

To confirm this for you, please post an unedited ipconfig /all from your DC.

Here's more info on single label domain names and how to force AD to
register into DNS with this type of name. However, not sure about helping
XP. Test it to make sure. This was an issue that was fixed with SP4 to stop
MS DNS servers from constantly hitting the Root servers when an AD DNS
domain name was created with a non-RFC style name.
