hi i am having a real headache at the moment trying to connect to web sites
every time i try to open up a page it takes a couple of minuits to settle
down and show all the info in that page for example when i tried to connect
to this site it took 35 secs to open page and then another 30secs to load all
the content i have reset explorer but that did not make any difference i have
disabled addons but all that did was stop most web pages opening atall this
has been like this for about 3 days now and its getting worse its like the
internet is grinding to a halt i have spoken to my sp and they say theres
nothing wrong with my connection i have done speed tests and they are fine
is there any one else out there experiencing similar probs by the way i live
in uk running vista hp

hi thanks for response my speed is fine 20mb done 4 tests and all the same
its hard to tell wether its the sites i am visiting or my explorer thats at
fault because there are so many reasons why this could be happening if its
any help my son has also been complaining that the internet is slow to open
pages i have been trying different sites since my initial post and they are
all the same sites i have tried are microsoft (some of their sites wont even
load properly)BBC and virgin media and some random sites it seems to be the
sites that have lots of links to other pages for example on virgin media site
there are about 3 links and a log in to get through to "my account"this took
about 5mins waiting for various parts to load up before you can move to the
next stage normally it would take 30-40 secs

sites as previous using ie must be a problem with ie i tried a little
experiment i had the same microsoft page open in both explorers and
refreshed the page it took 10 secs in ie and 3 in firefox it might be my
browser settings in ie but they are all default so i will stick with firefox
for now thanks for help

I suspect is IE Protected Mode feature; i.e. IE checks each sites/links it
opens against a list of bad sites or against malware, executables and such.
An add on might also be at fault.
If you like IE and want to use it, try some of these tips:
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/8038f9ac-9bf9-4809-8d75-fc42818d8af71033.mspx
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/114310-internet-explorer-reset.html
or search the web for "vista IE fix" or such.

thanks will try those i think you might be right about addons thinking about
it this all started after norton installed a addon pack for 2008 much of
which was for web site security ( phishing filters and privacy controlls)so
that might be slowing things down it might just be the price of being secure

You do not want to hear my comments about Norton's software (maybe except
Ghost)... did not last more than a couple of days on my machine... and that
was years ago.
