Slow Internet Connection for Clients of Home Network

I am running XP Professional with SP2 and have 2 XP Home Edition clients
connected to the MsHome workgroup. File and printer sharing work fine. The
clients can connect to the Internet thru the gateway but the load times are
very long and balky. Some sites load reasonably fast and some time out. I
can't find any pattern.

We had the same network configuration when I was running W2K Server and
everything worked fine.

Any suggestions?
