slow drive access

David Doyon

I have a new laptop with Vistra home premium. This Laptop is part of a
domain. We have 2 servers(One SBS 2003, One Server 2003(both DC's)). I can
login to the domain fine. I have drives mapped to both Servers. I can
connect to the SBS server drive very quickly. The problem is the new server
2003 box. When I connect to a drive share on the new server Vista takes
minutes to bring up the data. I have no problem with any XP clients(They
connect to both very quickly). DNS is on the new server and has records for
both servers. On the Vista laptop I can ping by name fine to both servers
with normal speed.

Any ideas?

That is almost always a problem with a misconfigured DNS setting. Make sure
the Vista client is using the SBS 2003 server for DNS and no other DNS
servers. There's also some updates you need to do to both the server and
Vista to properly join an SBS domain.
