Slow down? Can anyone help?

Recently, last month or so, my computer has been acting incredibly slow about
opening explorer, control panel, my computer, you know, those registry-type
things. Does anyone know what can cause this? I doubt it's a virus, my
firewall is active, and AOL/Norton haven't detected anything.I've also tried
defragging but it remains similarly slow (2 minutes). Event viewer tends to
mention something about DCOM as an error...any thoughts?

download adaware from www.lavasoft.de update the definitions file just like
AV software

restart computer in safe mode by holding down F8 key when the computer is
booting

Run Adaware for each user that uses the computer login in under their
username and run adaware at least twice. Run it until it has scanned your
computer twice and found nothing for each user. Once it has finished
scanning you can right click on any item it found and choose select all.
