Slow display of drives under My Computer

Recently two of my home PC's began to take 30 - 45 seconds to display drive
list when My Computer selected. Once displayed I can display folders and
files for the selected disk. If I select a folder or a subfolder I can view
its contents but when I go back one level the PC acts if it is re-searching
for the directory structure again taking 30 - 45 seconds. I run latest
versions of Adaware and Spybot every 2 weeks and run McAfee AV every 1 - 2
weeks. Other home PC's on same network are fine. All are running XP Pro. The
two problem PC's have not yet been upgraded to SP2. I tried this on one of
them but the resulting installation was unstable and installation routine
recommending uninstalling SP2 upgrade which I did.

Do either or both have any "networked" mapped drives - if so, the OS is
going out to see if the drive is actually there, also if the PC the mapped
drive is physically on is shutoff, then the OS must wait for the timeout
period before it returns control back to explorer. Somewhere, either on
Kelly's page or JSINC, there is a tweak to tell the OS/explorer to not
actually physically check for a network/mapped drive unless you actually
click on it to use it, which will speed up explorer in this case.

I'm having a similar problem - but not using anything mentioned in the
article...

I am having similar problem. Who's kelly or JSINC? Where do I find this
information so I can fix this problem.
