Slow directory listing

A

AustinBob

Our domain has a primary file server to store our users'
data. This is mapped as the M drive by way of the login
script. We've got several users that access this drive
and have to wait for up to a minute for the drive's
contents to be listed. The server and users are all
located in the same physical area and are using cat 5
cabling running at 10Mbps or faster. Any suggestions on
what might be causing the slow down?

Server is W2K Server (fully patched)
PCs are mostly W2K Pro with a few XP Pro (Fully patched)
We are not running AD (yet)

That seems kinda slow, even in a bit environment. What happens if you map
the drive by IP address?

e.g. net use * \\x.x.x.x\share faster?
