Has it always been like this or is the slow start recent. If its always been
this way check the start-up programs in "msconfig" (type into the run
command without quote) see if there is any thing else loading that may slow
things down. I've seen IBM PC's with a slow start & it turned out to be IBM
utilities, once disabled the PC started up fine.
If it is recent then have you installed anything recently that has put
something in the start-up or run Adaware and Spybot just to be sure.

Computer specs:

Fujitsu Siemens Pa 340-10
Asus A8NE-FM
AMD athlon 64 3400+
2211 Mhz
1024 ram
ATI X550HM 128/256MB.

xp home version 2002, SP2 (not sure about the build, think it was 600, but
where do i find that out again?)

anyway, the loading of the network controller and norton antivirus is REALLY
slow.
it takes from 3-7 minutes until they show on the quicklaunch bar. this is
really annoying.
is this normal?
is there any way i could make this process faster?
i have downloaded all the newest drivers and other utilities both from asus
and nVidia to see if i could get the network controller to be a bit quicker,
but no luck with that. is there any way i could improve this by doing
something in windows?

thanks!

You may be able to uninstall the updates or use system restore. You need to
check what is running at start-up to do this type "msconfig" in the run
command (without the quotes). You can disable the item one by one to see if
your start-up improves.
I'm not sure why MS update would install an IBM update to a Fujitsu-Siemens
computer.

hi!
now i just seem to remember that windows update chose some IBM drivers or
utilities to my computer in the custom mode.
how can i possibly delete these, or get back to the original state before
that update without deleting or reinstalling windows.

regards,
Erkki

i just tried system restore, but it was unable to do so.
anyway. i also now have a IBM travelmouse device driver showing in the
hardware section of the hardware updates.and as far as i remember, there was
a few other IBM items showing, but i was not looking to thoroughly through
since i trust that windows makes the best judgement.ill try msconfig and see
if anything changes.
