My SONY VIAO laptop has started booting very slowly. Today it took 23
minutes for it to actually get to the point where I could utilize the
computer. Can anyone tell me what I can do to find out the problem? I've
only added Virus protection and firewall recently, but the virus scan shows
no problems. I am using Windows XP.
I appreciate the help

First thing I would do is run a spyware program. Like Adaware of SpyBot
search and destroy. Both have free version.

If this doesnt help then run MSCONFIG. Check the startup tab. See how many
items you have. If its over 12 or so you may want to use selective startup
tab and uncheck the startup group and see if it restarts faster. If it does
its one of your startup items. you can use MSCONFIG to select how ever many
you want and slowly try to find the problem program.

Also if you just put the antivirus program on you may still have a virus.
The idea od having a scanner is to get them before you get infected. So just
in case if the above doesnt solve your problem then goto www.antivirus.com
and use the free online scan.
