Slow boot after SP2 installation

I don't know whether SP2 is part of the problem or not,
but it only surfaced after I'd installed SP2.

When booting my Sony VAIO notebook, the boot process will
essentially stop after the desktop appears. The hard
drive stops all activity and no more programs will load
in the system tray. If I try to start Internet Explorer
or Outlook Express, they won't load immediately. After
approx. 2 mins, the hard drive cranks up, the rest of the
systray programs will load and IE or OE will load.

After much playing with msconfig, I figured out that
disabling the Workstation service "fixes" the problem
(i.e. cuts the boot time down to ~ 30 seconds). An
online chat with MS Support says disabling Workstation
won't cause problems, but every resource I find on the
internet says that it will cause File & Print Sharing
problems.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Check out the following. It help my boot up time
http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/supertweaks.htm. Follow
the directions there. Number one tweak of system is to
turn off system restore. Turn it on only when you install
software. To make life easier start control panel,
select performance and maintenance, select administation
tools, select services then follow grid at
http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm use "save"
mode settings.

Any services that you have, but not there on the grid
will be sp2. You can change them to manual or disable to
see if it helps you.

I used there suggestions and it speeded up my boot up
