Cetain types of file need a lot of formatting before they get sent to the
printer. This can be very cpu intensive.
What type of document are you printing?
Try sending a plain text document like \windows\system32\eula.txt and see if
it has the same effect.
Next time it slows, have a look in taskmanger/process tab and see if any
particular task is using a lot of cpu.
