Let them eat beef

I'm about to replace a Via based m/b with an nVidia based one (Asus
A7V266-E to A7N8X-E Deluxe). I'm hoping I won't have to do a clean
install of XP SP2 until I also install yet to be purchased additional
replacement h/w. My intention is to image my drive for safety, delete
most of the drivers in Device Manager, install the new m/b, update to
the latest bios, then do a repair install of XP SP2.

Do I create the slipstreamed SP2 CD from the original CD or from my
slipstreamed SP1 CD (with its win51ip.SP1 file in the root)? I'm aware
that SP2 includes SP1.

Creat it from the original CD. -Dave

Cheers Dave. Have found my original CD & will try again - when I got as
far as updating the Windows Share, the process failed.

Thanks for the link. The IDE controller was so stuffed, I had to copy a
few files several times before they stuck OK. All went fine & the repair
install from the SS'd SP2 CD worked better than expected with only S3
Standby mode failing to work. Not even dumppo.exe fixed that. A clean
install will re-enable S3 mode & proper power off.

The new m/b is fine apart from no fan speeds are reported in the bios &
are incorrect in MBM5. The built-in bios updater wouldn't allow text
input so I resorted to updating from a floppy. Just as well I used NTFS
rather than FAT32. The reported CPU temperature is also more accurately
stated as 46C than the old m/b's 54C at idle.
