Slipstreaming XP & SP2 CD's - Problems with creating a Bootable CD

I have just come to the conclusion that the problem I've got here is
most probably not a hardware problem after all - I think the trouble
lies with my CD Rom drive as its started to fail to recognise CD's
when they are inserted into the drive - I'm only just remembering now
that this intermittent failure started some time ago but has been
infrequent enough initially for me to have forgotten about it - thus
I've been convinced the burned CD failed to boot due to some error in
either the software and/or my use of the procedures.

I've just blown some compressed air into the drive to see whether I
could clean out any dust which may have been obscuring the laser -
this got the " click any key to continue ...." message with the
slipstreamed CD but nothing further- this would suggest that the CD is
, in fact , bootable but perhaps the drive is failing.

I'll try the disk in another drive when I get to one.

Sorry to have wasted evrybody's time on this - thanks to all who have
replied.

etc

Please note that I did *not* write that - the poster has omitted
everything from my post except the author. Please be careful not to
attribute quotes to the wrong people; it did not matter much here, but
it could do

Alex,
I apologise as I appear to have placed my comments in the wrong bit of
the thread thereby implying that they came from you - my mistake
entirely - particularly embarassing as I have benefited on several
occassions from your advice .

Sincerely,

B.N.

Although it was probably clear to most readers who was doing the talking, I
believe that Nichol was referring to the fact that you had deleted his message
text but retained his message header, so it appeared to read; "Alex
Nichol...wrote:" which was then followed by your message.

You duplicated this again when you apologized. It may be a feature/option of
your newsreader.

This worked great for me too. Just follow the instructions (it doesn't take
as long as it seem it might)

Peter
