Slipstreamed SP2 CD is too big to burn

Hi,

My Compaq OEM Windows XP Professional CD is 750MB on the CD.
When I slipstream SP2 into it, it's still 750MB, which is too big to burn
without overburning the CD, and risking corruption.
Is there something I can get rid of to save space, without compromising the
installation process?

Thanks,

Michael

My slipstream is 609,832,960 bytes, and works fine. You must have done
something wrong!

Hi Michael,

From a post by Alex Nichol, MVP:

That sounds like it may well be Compaq extras. Try leaving it out and see
how the result does. You *may* find that Compaq's setup then gets so far
and starts looking for the folder though.

Interestingly enough, when I tried to slipstream my Dell OEM copy
of XP Home, the updater in the Nework Install version of SP2
would not let me do the update. It gave an error that you can't
slipstream an already slipstreamed copy of XP. This was not
a problem with SP1.

Hi

You only need the I386 directory with the following
subdirectories in it:

\---I386
+---ASMS
+---LANG
+---COMPDATA
+---DRW
\---SYSTEM32

Include all files in the I386 directory. Include all
files and subdirectories in the specified subdirectories
of I386 (ASMS, LANG, COMPDATA, DRW and SYSTEM32). The
LANG subdirectory is optional as long as you're not going
to use a eastern language.

The following files have to be in the root directory of
the CD:

WIN51
WIN51IP
WIN51IP.SP2

My slipstreamed Windows XP Professional SP2 is about
400MB in size, leaving out the LANG subdirectory.

There will be folders of Compaq auxiliary software, aside from the i386
one containing Windows. Note that Compaq uses a lot of proprietary
hardware and aspects of the system tweaked, so P am not sure that
slipstreaming it is a good idea. But try to identify some other large
folder and leave it out of the burn

Hope this helps guys.

Steps to OEM Dell
1)go into I386
2)Delete SVCPACK Directory
3)Delete SVCPACK DL File
4)Delete SVCPACK.Inf file
5) Continue slipstream as normal

What are you giving away by deleting this stuff?
