Slipstream SP1?

I've burned a new Vista Ultimate install disk slipstreamed with SP1 using
Vlite. However...it will only perform a clean install, and not an upgrade
on the existing Home Premium with SP1. I want to ?upgrade to Vista
Ultimate. Running install with the slipstreamed Vista Ultimate w/SP1 I get
these statements: "Upgrade has been Disabled" The upgrade cannot be
started. To upgrade cancel install, then choose to upgrade to a version
that is more recent than currently running" Is it because my current Vista
Home Premium w/SP1 has been upgraded to the latest updates? And the
slipstreamed DVD files are older, even with the downloaded SP1 files from
Microsoft?

Are you booting to the CD?

Upgrading in Vista is accomplished via the Windows GUI, not by
booting to the CD.

You need to get a real slipstreamed DVD from Microsoft - your third party
tools that attempts to create a slipstreamed disk has obviously failed to
produce a completely valid image.
( a real "with SP1" disk can perform and upgrade in the scenario you ask
about)

You can try uninstalling SP1 from the existing Home Premium version, then
installng via upgrade from your slipstreamed disk.
But, no guarantees as your disk is an unknown quantity!!

I think I already explained, maybe not.... The OEM version the manufacturer
has installed already has SP1 integrated. This is the software Microsoft
supplies the manufacturers on their newer machines. There is no way to
uninstall SP1. At least that is what Acer (the tech) and a FAQ from
Microsoft. The only way, is to do a clean install of VISTA, which would
wipe out all of the OEM's installed software, drivers, etc.

So your options are either to get a real with SP1 DVD from Microsoft or your
OEM.
Forget trying to use dodgy third party products to kludge an SP1
slipstreamed disk (they obviously did not work for you) also the build you
produce will not be supported by anyone and may not be perfect as is again
proven by the tools inability to make a correct image.
Or perform a clean install with you none SP1 media and then add SP1.

OEM cds do not have upgrade functionality. Only retail cds have that.
Slipstreamed or not, it is still an OEM cd and can only perform a clean
installation of Windows.
