Uninstall SP1 on an OEM machine and upgrade to Ultimate?

Maybe I'm not asking correctly, but I just purchased a new machine with
Home Premium SP1 already installed. Through the Microsoft feedback program,
MS sent me two copies of Vista Ultimate, 32 bit and 64 bit. Neither DVD had
been upgraded to SP1 before MS sent out these DVDs. How do I upgrade to
Ultimate, since I have read that Vista won't upgrade if SP1 has already been
installed, using a DVD that doesn't have SP1 already integrated? right now
I'm not keen on wiping the drive and doing a clean install. Running
Appwiz.cpl did not show an option to uninstall SP1.

Did you click on "Show installed updates" located in
the left pane of the "Programs and Features" applet?

Yes I did. I went to MS support page where instructions are there. I did
not find "Service Pack for Microsoft Windows (KB936330)".

And you probably won't if the machine was loaded with Vista SP1, as opposed
to loaded with Vista, SP1 being applied after the initial load..

You would have to clean install if you decided on the 64bit route and, with
what you have, it looks like you would have to do the same with 32bit as
well.

Frisch is wrong!

If it came pre-installed with SP1, you can not uninstall SP1, to allow you
to install via upgrade, the Ultimate disks that do not have SP1

Clean install only way.

That happens a lot.

There is one other chance, if the machine came with a genuine Microsoft
Vista disc rather then a "recovery" disc, and the Ultimate license is a
full or upgrade (but not OEM), then you can likely use the original
installation DVD (which will obviously have SP1)

Like most, if not all manufacturers, it did not come with ths disk. They
even want you to create your own recovery disks now (two DVDs).

And you didn't do that? Most don't because they don't want to waste the
time, don't happen to have two DVD-Rs, assume that nothing will ever go
wrong, don't understand what the message means ...

You may not have read what I was referring to:

Of course I created the two DVD recovery disks.

Some do, some don't. Of the Dell, Gateway, LG, Toshiba and HP laptops
we've bought in our household in the last three years, only the HP
didn't come with (or make available) a genuine Microsoft set of media.

My current laptop, a Toshiba A205 included the DVD in the retail box
without any special prompting.
