Slightly annoying problem in Vista Home Premium...

Hi guys and girls

My Vista seems to want to invade my laptop and not allow me to remove any
Windows Features!

Take tonight for example - I tried to uninstall the whole IIS service, along
with the Windows Tablet feature and Windows Meeting Space. So I go to
Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off, give
admin approval, uncheck the boxes and then press OK. Let the OS configure
the features, after which it asks me to restart. So I click Restart Now, let
my little laptop reboot, but the FEATURES ARE BACK!!!

Had I known it would be impossible to turn the features off I wouldn't have
installed the IIS service as I use my computer primarily for Apache/PHP work,
but I was wondering if anyone had any similar problems or any symptoms?

Many thanks,
Mike

Mike,
Try booting in safe mode to bypass the Windows startup files.
Then go through your deletes.
If you are using the CMD feature,
right click on it and select Run As Administrator.

Hi Jerry

Thanks a lot for your advice. I rebooted in safe mode and then removed the
features that way. I then restarted after the system asked me to and
restarted in normal mode. However, I still got the 'Configuring Updates'
message before the login screen showed, and hey presto the features were
still there!

It seems that the features are being removed, but then installed again as
the programs are highlighted in the start menu (indicating a recently
installed product). Do you think it may be worthwhile contacting my laptop
manufacturer (Compaq)?

Thanks again,
Mike

It might be worth a try to call Compaq,
But,
One other thing you might do is to go to a complete shutdown,
Wait 20 seconds and then boot up again.
Sometimes Windows doesn't completely turn off programs doing a reboot.

Hi again Jerry

I tried as you said to just completely shut the system down, and then tried
it again an hour later, but still the problem persists, it is very bizarre.

I've got in touch with Compaq and they also sound as confused as I do, but
they are looking into it now.

Thanks again for your suggestions anyway, they were much appreciated!)

You are very welcome, Mike,
Sorry it didn't work for you,
