slide transition

I have created a slide show presentation (PPS) with a total of 28 slides set
to transition automatically every 4 seconds. Every thing is great except
I'd like the last slide to remain on screen indefinitely instead of getting
the "black slide" after the last 4 sec interval

Exactly how you do this depends on which version of PowerPoint you are
using. If you are using 2003, then go to the last slide. Go to the Slide
Show menu and choose Slide Transition. On the right, you will see the
Slide Transition task pane. Near the bottom, uncheck the box for
Automatically after. Do not click Apply to All Slides.
