Slide show won't work!

Malcolm H

I'm using Office2000 Premium. All works ok except Powerpoint slide show. I
can view and sort the slides manually but neither the slide show icon nor F5
have any effect.

I have the original CDs but cannot see how to uninstall/reinstall just
Powerpoint. It seem to be possible only to uninstall the whole of Office2000
which I don't want to do because Word and Excel work perfectly.

Ideas anyone?

Hi,

It's been a while since I used 2000.

I wonder if you go to the control panel, add/ remove program, select office
2000 and see if you can change it or repair it.

Actually, try this:

MalcolmH,
Reinstalling should be the very last resort. Let's check some other things
first.
Try this, go to Slide show - Set-up show - see if the radio button all
slides is active - or maybe just beneath it there is a range defined, also
in the same dialog see if browse at a kiosk is active choose with one
speaker.
Also see in the slide transition animation pane if there is a large
automatic transition time applied to the first or all slides and the manual
on mouseclick is deactivated.
Third, check in the slide sorter view if slides are not hidden, you will see
a little grey icon with a strikethrough.
If all this does not help, report back.

Thanks Glen

In control panel add/remove program you can only remove the whole of MS
Office not individual components.

I have run the 'repair' function from the CD but still no slide show!

Hi,

Then, try what Luc has suggested.

In addition to Luc's suggestions, when you're in the Slide Show | Set up
Show dialog box, make sure you're set to play on Primary Monitor. It could
be that your presentation is actually displaying, but it's displaying on a
secondary "ghost" monitor. :-)

Hi Echo,
Forgot that one, will probably be it.

Yes that was it!

I have two monitors in dual mode - but one is usually switched off. In
order to read your posts and play with Powerpoint at the same time I fired
up
the second monitor. To my amazement I discovered that the slide show does
work perfectly but only displays on the second monitor.

So it seems Powerpoint is working fine! Now all I have to do is understand
what is happening with my dual monitor system.

Thank you all for your assistance

I've tried but failed. How can I persuade Powerpoint to display everything
on the primary monitor?

OK solved the problem! Right click desktop to get display
properties/settings/advanced/GeForceFX5200 and then change from dual to
single display. Easy when you know how!!

Thank you again.

It should be Slide Show | Set up Show | Display on Primary Monitor (the
dropdown box). If that doesn't do the trick, try selecting Secondary Monitor
there. Which is primary and secondary depends on what you've specified in
the Windows display settings. You can right-click your desktop and choose
Properties | Settings to see which is #1 and which is #2.

If that's not it, then I hope someone else has ideas because I'll be
clueless!
