Slide show won't show

No matter how I try to run a slide show, all I get is the PowerPoint Slide
Show icon at the bottom of my screen but the slide show won't run. It seems
like it's deactivated somehow. This is regardless whether I use the Slide
Show drop down menu, the little computer screen icon in the lower left, or
the View drop down menu.

I ran the MicroSoft 'repair' utility, and I have shut down and restarted
both the program and my computer. What else can I try in order to restore
it?
 
Gee whiz, thanks John. That's it exactly! I just added a 2nd monitor but
turned it off when I thought it wasn't needed.

Scary isn't it! I've fixed three of these this month as using second monitors
gets more common. One guy didn't even own a second monitor but his son had
used the laptop at school!
