slide show menu (Tablet PC)

I have a tutorial that came with my tablet PC that shows a powerpoint slide
show menu that has a next and previous button on it. I can't even find
anything on the slide show menu in the help, and the two-button slide show
menu I've been able to get showing does not have those buttons or the screen
button also mentioned in the tutorial. How so I make these show?
Powerpoint is not very useful in tablet mode without at least a next and
previous button!

Thanks;

Amy

So you need to know how to create your own buttons?

Choose View, Master, Slide Master.

From the Drawing toolbar, choose AutoShapes, Action Buttons. On the flyout menu
you'll see a variety of them; two are specifically Forward and Back buttons.
Add one of each, size and position on slide as desired.

Choose View, Normal.

You should see your action buttons on every slide and in slide show mode they
should work as you need.

These are true statements.

However, there are two problems with them

(1) The tutorial shows the buttons as semitransparent and all of a piece
with the slide show menu bar in the lower left of the screen. This is what
I want, if at all possible. They have a screen capture of it, so I suspect
it is possible. However, their screen capture says PowerPoint 2003, and I
have XP. Was this a new feature added for 2003? I can't find anything
about it, anywhere.

(2) There does not seem to be an action button analogous to the Screen
button that lets you add a black or white board to the presentation or the
pen button that pops up the ability to change weight and ink color.

Do you know of any help available for that little semitransparent menu at
the bottom and how to affect its properties? The only thing I have been
able to find is the check box for show popup.

Thanks;

Amy

I think what you're referring to is actually a tablet feature as opposed to
something that PPT itself offers. Does the tutorial say anything about how
to turn on this feature, or is it a completely unrelated tutorial that just
happens to show these controls?

No, it does not. Everything I've ever seen as far as tablet tutorials and
tablet pc pages that mention this feature accept it as a given. It seems
like something that should just sort of be there, but it isn't there.

Thanks!

Ah, THAT thing. That's even simpler. Choose Tools, Options and on the View
tab, put a checkmark next to "Show popup toolbar". That'll be available in XP
as well. But it sounds as though you've found that already. Is it still not
appearing? In that case, check Slide Show, Set Up Show (from the main menu).
Choose Browsed by Speaker - Full Screen rather than Kiosk Mode.

That's correct, but you can press B or W on the keyboard to go to white or
black screen. There are quite a few other useful key combos ... press F1 while
in slide show view to get the complete list.

Isn't there a separate one on tablets though? I know I was once asked how to
turn it off right before someone's presentation, but I had zero idea how to
do so. I thought it was a tablet PC function, not a PPT function....

My fingers are a bit too thick to fit between the back of the tablet screen
and the keyboard when it is in tablet mode.

I suspect it is a combination of both, that you both have to have the tablet
pack for Office and that you have to have PowerPoint.

Odd. I have the four buttons (forward, back, pen and the other one). But this
is 2003, not on a tablet.

Hang on while I start the WaybackVirtualMachine.
And bingo.
In PPT XP, you only get two buttons, and neither is a forward or back button.

Ah. Does the screenshow mode in PPT disable the onscreen keyboard on the
tablet? While I have a tablet, I don't use it with PPT. Some tablets have
extra buttons you can use for scrolling; these might work as forward/backward
buttons in PPT as well.

I hadn't thought of that. I will try those buttons.
