Sleepy NIC to DSL?

Hi, J

I have a problem with the ISP network connection disconnecting while the
machines are inactive. Whenever the screen saver or monitor turns off (50
min / 2 hours respectively) and I wake it up the balloon popup says the
local area 2 is now connected.

The problem doesn't affect the operations in any way except that the IP from
the ISP is DHCP'ed with only a 4 hour lease. So when the lease has expired
the DHCP client starts complaining for six to eight times for 6 to 10 hours
and then it says "I quit!", and the the browser complains and demands a new
election to take over his job from on of the other computers (this browser
complaint would indicate that it can't talk to the clients, not the ISP?)

What in Windows XP SP2 (like the firewall or the exception listed 3rd party
firewall) would cause the DSL connection to disconnect just because of
inactivity?

P.S. This was not happening right after I installed SP2, but has started
happening in the last 2 weeks. The only thing I did was narrow down the open
ports on my 3rd party firewall but all the standard programs work fine with
the exception of windows time on the clients.

Is there some simple thing I am over looking (like a port or a WFW setting?

Thank you,

SJ

Hi. I have a problem with my computer can not resolve it maybe you can
help. When i have it on Screen Saver its shuts down and completely turns the
montor off.To get back on i have to turn the power off then rebott. Its say
(its going to sleep) How can i stop this?

The screen saver does not have anything to do with the power management.

Power management turns the video part of the monitor off but does not tun
off the monitor.

It does not sya "It is going to sleep". There is no such notice.

Right click on the desktop, select properties.
Click screen saver tab, clcik power button
set all dropdrown boxes to NEVER.
Click Advanced tab
set dropdown boxes to "Do Nothing".
click Apply button
click OK buton
set screen saver to (None)
clcik Apply button
clcik OK button

Then give me a big wet KISS. :)
