sleeping printers have to be reconnected

We have 5 new xp pro pc's with printers attached that keep falling asleep. i
thought cari had answer with power save on usb's when i realized these
printers are connected to LP1. we can find the sleep setting on the usbs but
not the LP port. this could be a setting on our network switch but we
strongly suspect the new pc's and xp pro are the culprit - help anyone?

thanks alan i will get our person at that site to check that tomorrow. i have
a similar pc here at home and when i check parallel ports on bios there is no
mention of power management on my parallel port but i don't have the problem,
his pcs are brand new and maybe have that setting on.

thanks for trying Alan but there were no power management settings in the
parallel port bios. I also realized that 1 of our 5 printers is an hp2300
which is in fact connected by a usb port but even after disabling the sleep
on the device manager settings for usb ports we are still having the same
problem with that printer as the other 4 connected by LP1. More info - we are
connecting to an AS400 using the internet and Host on Demand - we have 2
other locations set up the same way and they do not have this problem. The
big difference at this site is the pc's are new and we are using a newly set
up switch for the inernet connection. Our screen sessions which come through
the same configuration are not going to sleep like the printers. We still
feel there is something minor we might be missing in our xp pro power
management set up but we can't find it. A simple close of the printer session
and reopening it gets the printers going after 15 minutes idle. Any other
ideas??

Not sure what you mean by screen sessions. Is this a terminal server
environment? You keep stating LP1 I am assuming you mean LPT1.

Sorry Alan - LPT1 and we are communicating with an AS400 over the internet
using Host on Demand (IBM) with the same configuration in 2 other locations
without this problem.
