shuts down but comes back on in few seconds am novice

Not sure what you're asking. It is normal for the system to resume from
Standby if there is any movement of the mouse or if you press a key on the
keyboard.

Bill,
Probably a cluster of three keys. Put the computer to sleep
with the moon key, wake it up with the sun key and shut
down with switch key (circle with vertical line through it).
Restart with computer on/off switch.
