sleep issues

hi,

When Vista goes to sleep on my PC, the power supply fan is not turned off.
With XP this was the case and the PC was completely silent. Any ideas of
settings or registry edits?

thanks

Hi,

The PSU fan is not normally controlled by the motherboard or the OS in most
cases, it is controlled by a thermal sensor within the unit itself unless
it's high end using the ATX/NLX signals. In that case, you may need
additional Vista-compatible motherboard drivers from the manufacturer to
control these signals.

hi, thanks for the reply. It is an old motherboard (Abit IT7). But the
problem is fixed. It seems Vista takes a longer time to go to sleep. The PSU
fan is only switched off after a minute. I never waited that long ;-)

Another problem is that my monitor sometimes does not switch on after waking
from sleep. The strange thing is, when I reset, Vista does not reboot but
"resumes" (similar when hibernating), but after resuming the screen says
"Cannot display this video mode". But the PC remains responsive. Maybe it is
graphic driver issue? I currently use the build-in driver for my Nvidia
G6200.

thanks.

Hi,

Yes, there are still some glitches with video, both ATI and Nvidia, that I
hope to see resolved with updated drivers.

Hagar,

I don't have a solution for your problem, but I do want to point out, that
you already found out the reason why it takes a little longer for Vista to
go to sleep. The feature is called hybrid sleep, which saves the memory to
the harddisk when you tell the computer to go to sleep, so that when there's
a power failure, it can still resume (this time, not from the memory, but
from the hard disk).
