Skipping playback

My playback skips like crazy. I thought it was because the clips were too
large, but I think it has to do with what's on the clip. I'm taping from a
helmet camera on a dirt bike. On flat surfaces, everything seems to work ok.
When I film going thru trees with movement on the sides and the ground, the
playback starts to skip. The audio remains constent and the video hesitates
and jumps forward to catch up. I made sure it was smooth on the tape to rule
out a signal problem from the camera. The video card in my computer is an
Intel(R)82854g/gl/ge/pe/gv Graphics Controller. I'm not a computer expert. Is
this card good enough to do this operation? I tried burning a CD and the
skipping was on it also., so that would rule out the view screen in MM being
the only problem. Thanks in advance for any help.

Does source footage skip when played in Windows Media Player?

Does the MM project have a lot of transitions, video effects, titles, and
additional audio/music channel? If so CPU and hard disk speed can cause
skippy jerky behavior. If your CPU has 'Speed Step', set it to full tilt
boogie while making movies.

Are you having MM render the project and save to CD at same time? If so
try rendering project and save to disk (my computer) first. Then verify it
plays smoothly in Windows Media Player before importing that movie back into
MM and saving to CD.

CPU & Speed?
Hard Disk Size, Free Space and Rotational Speed (RPM)?
Defragged Hard Disk?
