Size of the attachment

Hello everybody,

When I send a message with an attachment, the size of the message is
increasing quite a lot

The attachment is 281 kb, on my disk (there is no text in the message)
On the recipient's mailbox, the message is 395 kb
When the reciepient edits the message, the size falls down to 282 kb. (-- 30
%)

The problem is when the recipient receives "heavy" attachment, his mailbox
is quickly full !

I know that when we send mails through SMTP, the size of the message will
vary according to the coding method used. When there are attachments, they
are converted from ASCII to MIME or UUencode, and this conversion increase
the size of 30 - 40 %.

So the question is :

How can I reduce this conversion increase percentage ?

Only by reducing the size of the attachment BEFORE it is encoded. Try
zipping it before sending.
