size: larger than.....

i just finish installing windows xp pro, i have two hard
drives, my secondary hard drive contains my digital
photos, jpg format under folder called jpgxx. when i
place the cursor over the folder the size of the folder
reports back "size: larger than...." and whatever size
the contents is reported. now to open the folder takes
longer than normal and sometimes it indicates not
responding, this also always happens over the network as
well. now before my drive was wiped i did not have this
problem. the drive has been scanned and re-scanned for
viruses, none found. furthermore, no other folders are
affected. when i use the address bar in internet explorer
to access the folder over the network i have no problem.
anyone with ideas. thanks

Just guessin coz I couldn't quite forulate a question out
of your words other than it works over the internet (i.e.
on another computer) but not locally. Why?

Maybe the local macine has less real memory and needs
more Virtual memory to read in the data.
Check your virtual memory setting, Right-Click on MY-
Computer, select properties
Advanced TAB, Performance group, Settings Button, Avanced
TAB, Virtual Memory group, Change Button,
Custom Size, Initial size (MB) make it 1024, Max size
(MB) make it 2048

Now try the local folder.
