sites that lag

I find with IE 6 when I surf to several websites, the
browser seems to lag terribly. If I switch to NETSCAPE and
visit these same sites, everything moves along nicely.
Does anyone know how to remedy this problem as I'd like to
avoid using Netscape at all.

Josh,
The first thing to do is to scan your system for the possibility of
unknown\unwanted spyware or parasites that may be causing your problem(s).

You may need to clear your TIF as you may have a corrupt file there.

Close all instances of OE and IE
Control Panel | Internet Options | General tab
Click the "Delete Files" button, when prompted place a check in:
"Delete all offline content", click OK
Click the "Clear History" button, click OK.
Click the Settings button, adjust the TIF size to 50 mb, click OK
