Site designation for AD DFS without A DC?

Rob McShinsky

Is it possible to create an Active Directory DFS where there are
distribution/DFS points at different offices but without a Domain Controller
at that particular site. What I am looking for is the ability to use DFS
with the Active Directory telling the client where to recieve the
distribution from. I don't really want to increase the number of domain
controllers at these sites.

Thanks

Rob-

So long as the DFS servers and clients can contact a DC, you're fine. IF
there is more than 10 or 15 clients at the site, I'd look at a DC in their
site.

Most are petty good. We have the luxury of at least a T1 with many having
multiple T1 or T3. All communication between clients and servers is doing
fine at that speed. Software Distrubution of say Office 2003 or even
Service packs to multiple clients at the other end over a T1 can take quite
some time however.

I'd put a distribution server at each remote office. They don't have to be
DCs. Just keep in mind that link bandwidth will be somewhat consumated when
a big installer is replicating.
