Single letter in top bar

I am using IE 6.0 with XP Pro. The top bar of the browser does not list the full desciption of the site I am on. The description is truncated and only shows the first letter of the site. Any suggestions?

Thanks Frank. I tried IEMate but no matter what I change the top bar to contain, it still only gives me the first letter of the site. If I'm on a site (i.e. "My.Yahoo.com"), the bar only has the letter "M". I suspect some program I have has taken over IE. I'll welcome any other suggestions.
