single label domain

considering creating a new root forest domain due to old
one being a single label domain name. Want to migrate now
before company gets too big and to avoid future issues
with domain and DNS and replication. This is a major
step, will take alot of planning. Can anyone give me any
advice?

You mentioned "migrating" so will take it from that you plan to create a
"new" forest with the desired dns name and then use ADMT v2 to migrate from
your single label to the new one, but if that is not correct, please let us
know.

the following will give some additional info about single label;

Single-Label

Although the reg entry is a work around, I would recommend doing what you're
doing to avoid any possible future problems before your enterprise gets too
big like you're doing. By default, with sp4, single label entries will not
get registered without either a new dns name or the reg entry.
While 2k3 allows for a domain rename, 2k doen't.
