Hi,

I have installed SP2 on a number of machines at work and all seems OK. I
have now installed it on my home Dell PC and in general things seem OK
except I cannot now get upgrades as the machine tells me I'm not an
Administrator - but I am.

I have logged in as Administrator (the oroginal one) and even this won't let
me change settings to my normal account that I use.

I have tried running the updates as Administrator and still the same. I
can't change any accounts even when logged in as Administrator. Both my
normal account and Administrator are reported as being administrators.

Can anyone help here please?

Regards,

Vic

If I remember corretly, there is a link in the Win update troubleshooter
files. Follow the links from the Win update page. If I'm mistaken, please
let me know. I haven't looked since I installed Sp2Rc1

Hi. I can't find the link that you were talking about I'm afraid.

I have an update on my status:-
I have now gone in as the Administrator account and been able to create an
account with admin privaleges. When logging on to this new account, I have
been able to set and reset my original account to restricted and back to
administrator again. Before this, even when logged into the Administrator
account I could not change these settings.

However, I still can't use the Microsoft Update site as it tells me I'm not
an administrator whichever account I'm logged into.

Any more ideas?

Vic

A possibility: Have you used Spybot Search and Destroy, and its
Immunise?
