I installed SP2 when it was released and almost
immeadiately afterwards my computer began to randomly
restart, and once having restarted it would just restart
again and again and again, without ever loading up XP. The
only way to stop this cycle was to unplug the computer from
the mains, leave it a few minutes and then load up again.

The problem seems to happen entirely randomly, sometimes it
happens 5 minutes after I load up, sometimes 5 hours, and
has happened when I have been using a whole variety of
different programs and does not seem to be related to just
any one process or program I initiate.

I have uninstalled all other programs I installed around
this time (which were only one or two games) and have run
virus checks (Norton) as well as anti-spyware software. All
of which have said my computer is clean, yet the problem
persists and means I am losing lots of time and work as my
computer suddenly reboots without warning.

Please help

Make sure your microsoft firewall is on. Need help? Open
help and support and search for "firewall.

I also noticed you didn't include spyware scans for those
free downloads to help with everything they promise but
don't tell you about startup programs and registry items
that fool with your pc. If you don't have reliable
spyware removal, you can it with spybot free at :

http://www.net-integration.net/index.php?
page=spybotsd#clean

I suggest you run the spybot scan. It will run awhile.
WHen finished ,clean recommended. Some entries will be in
memory. The program ask if you would like to fix at next
boot up. Reply yes

It has an automatic backup so you can restore fixes.

You'll also need to remove startup registry items also ,
highjackthis is available free at:

http://www.net-integration.net/index.php?

They can help you with interpreting logs. Just follow
their instructions

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I've already run Spy
bot over my system and deleted all the things it turned up.
