Simultaneous downloads. Can I do this?

I am too timid to actually try this, but what if I wanted to go to bed at
night and wake up to two completed downloads?

OS: XP Home
Dialup connection (hence the question)
Stand-alone desktop computer

Could I start them, one after the other, and expect success?
What about simultaneous uploads?
What about a download and an upload?

Yes on all three.

Yes, you can d/l 2 files at a time from any domain. You can queue files but only for 5 mins.

Those two files incl the multiple files that make up web pages. Try to d/l 3 files two will start and one will queue (and 5 mins later time out)

As others have said - yes. But be careful/aware if your ISP has a
logon time limitation.

Whilst most ISPs have a activity time-out (no internet activity for xx
minutes = auto logoff), some also have a total session time limit.

Too many d/ls at one time slow down your dialup activity ... and you
exceed the session time, get kicked-off, and all is lost and you may
hafta start all over again.

I shall keep your warning in mind! :)

Being on dialup you might concider a download manager in case you loose your
connection you'll have to start all over, if the site you are d/l from
allows you to "resume" then your entire d/l won't have to be restarted.
It's been some time since I was on dialup but when I was I found this to be
very useful

Very handy when downloading large files.

Not sure where the settting is, but there must be one; my XP SP2+
has never timed out; and I often do what the OP wants to do,
allowing overnight transmission of some very large files. Well,
I used to; I'm on DSL now. 5 Minutes? Pfft!

If you want to download more than 2 files at a time, you will have to go
with a Mozilla based browser, but on a dialup, most ISPs do not detect
file/email download as activity (?!?!) so they can time out after 20min
(typical setting) if you don't surf a page in the interim.

Some handy browser tweaks here...

In theory, it should work.
