Simultaneous Connections

Guest

I have buyed 10 ts licenses, I already installed and activate the licenses on
this server (dc) I have an aplication in the aplication server (apsrv) that I
want to share via ts but only 3 simultaneous connections are allowed. When
the fourth connection try to connect with the apsrv server there is a meesage
that says the server has has the maximun allowed conections.
Why is this happening if I have 10 licenses??? How can I solve this?

Which OS are you running on the Terminal Server? W2K or 2003?
Are you sure that the server is in Application Server mode and not
in Remote Administration mode?

I suspect that you are not running out of TS licenses, but normal
server CALs. Check your EventLog, which should tell you if that
really is the problem. If it is, verify in Control Panel -
Licensing applet and add more server CALs there.

Also check if there is a limit set on the number of concurrent
connections on the rdp/tcp connection.

Ok, my os is 2003, how can I know in what mode is set my server?
The event viewer doesn't say nothing about, (I recreate the error an check
inmediatly the event viewer on the server)

With the license mode applet I got a window and in the first combo box
(product:) says Windows Server (I don't know if there have to be able to set
Terminal Services product or something like that).
In the Perserver radio buton (number of concurrent connections box) is the
number five (this is typing error during the instalation).

OK, that's what I thought, you have only 5 Per Server CALs, so you
can only have 5 concurrent connections to this server. That
includes connections to shared network drives, printers,
authentication, as well as terminal Services.

Check how many server CALs you have bought and enter that number
in the Licensing applet for product Windows Server.

Or disable the License Logging Service, which is disabled by default on 2003.
Disabling this service does NOT mean you don't need the appropriate number
of CALs.

Ok, Vera, I don't know exactly if this is the problem because in the applet
says 5
licenses and I can only have 3 connection limit.

Patrick, I had enable the service to see what hapen.

thanks for your help.

I understand, but have you also checked if someone has connected
to a shared drive on this server? That takes a licenses as well.
Or maybe to a printer shared from this server? Or authenticated?

These server CALs *are* your problem. Either enter the correct
number of server CALs that you bought, or disable the service as
Patrick suggested, and the problem will be gone.

Ok, I just enter the exact number of CALS on the license option in the server
(250), and still when the fourt rdp conecctions attemps to open a session the
message shows "Terminal server has exedeed the maximun number of connections".
the License Logging Service is stopped and the problem still there.

By the way if it helps, the server wher I install and activate the licenses
is diferent that the server I trying to connect. Anyway I had tried the same
things you tell me to do in this especific server too and the same problem is
present.

Weird! Have you checked if there is a limit set on the number of
concurrent connections on the rdp/tcp connection? That would be on
the Terminal Server.

I guess we are close to solve this problem, I just check in the console tree
in server settings the Licensing option and is in Remote Desktop for
Administration mode. When I try to change this parameter I cant because this
is the only option I have in the combo box. I suppose there had to be
configured as an Aplication mode (I guess). How can I change this parameter?

Vera,
I guess we are really close to solve this, I just check in tscc in the
console tree in Server Settings in the Licensing option is configures to
Remote Desktop for Administration, I already try to change this value but I
can't because is the only value that shows in the combo box. I guess it had
to be configured in aplication mode. How can I change this option?

Then in the connection propertis I check the maximun number of simultaneous
connections and is set to 2. I can't change because the server is in Remote
Desktop for Administration Mode (it's a message telling me this).

Thanks in advance...

You must install Terminal Services (Add/Remove programs - Add
Windows component). Terminal Services in 2003 implies what was
formerly called TS in Application server mode.
