Sims 2 performance very suprising

I have a 3 Ghz processor with HT, 1GB Ram (2x512) (400Mhz each), 128MB
Geforce FX 5700 Ultra, 16X DVD-Rom Drive and these settings are way higher
than 'The Sims 2' minimum specification but still when im playing the game it
does not work smooth. The frame rate is not good, when i move around, it does
not go smoothly. I have left the display settings to default as, in the
manual it says that the default settings are what the game adjusts the
settings to be. I am currently using DVI connection, will changing it to
analog make any difference as the refresh rate supported on my monitor is
higher on analog than DVI. What is the possible cause and solution to this?

Hi Manu,

While you can certainly try switching from DVI to Analog to see if there
is any improvement, I have to wonder which other games you're playing
on that system, and whether they are providing satisfactory performance.

Basically it would be good to see which category this problem fits into:

1. Software (Drivers, Game Update...)
2. Hardware (Power Supply, RAM...)

Well, i play NBA Live 2005 on maximum graphics detail + maximum resolution,
Command & Conquer Generals on maximum graphics detail + maximum resolution,
Doom 3 on medium graphics detail + 1024x768 resolution. Btw maximum
resolution means 1280x1024. And this is an Alienware machine which i got in
February so i doubt it's a hardware problem but ya of course it's always
possible. Now how do we determine what's the exact problem. I've got all the
latest updates, video driver, sims 2 patch, audio driver etc.

Hi Manu,

There's some discussion surrounding Sims 2 and GeForce cards at:
http://forums.thesimsresource.com/archive/index.php/t-248488.html
however, since the performance is fine with other games, I imagine
that the issue is with the SIMS and not with your system / hardware.

This didn't help regarding my problem and anway my driver was newer than the
ones they were talking about in that discussion. Any other suggestions?

Hi manu,

I'm not going to suggest any changes to your system since the other
games all run fine. This is apparently an issue with SIMS 2 according
to the data you've provided so far. Have you contacted their support?

Hi Manu,

Seeing as the 25th was Christmas day and a Saturday, we can give
them the benefit of the holidays on this one occasion. I'm sure they
will be contacting their customers sometime this week. :)
