Simple way to do extensive reformatting?

I'm tasked with trying to blend content from multiple Office applications
into something that looks very, very clean and consistent, and I've come to
the conclusion that Word styles will make that easier than trying to cobble
together things in PowerPoint. Right now, our "template" is in PP, but I'm
arguing that we should develop a Word template with the styles that will
produce the same look but will permit the assembly of a single document with
pagination, etc. that doesn't resemble a ransom note.
Some of my content actually can be producted in Word format (.doc or .rtf);
but it's extensively formatted and would need to be reformatted with
different styles. Any suggestions from the community on ways to do that?

You can use Find and Replace to replace direct formatting with styles. Note,
however, that reformatting a document is basically a manual task. You may
want to print a copy of your document(s) so that you can see which
formatting should be applied to text paragraphs, and then manually apply the
appropriate styles.
