How do I copy a doc so that formatting does not change to normal?

Where I work, the template for documents was changed from the basic normal to
a special template. For new documents, no problem, but when a doc changes it
has to be reformatted. When we copy the formatted document back into the
Electronic Doc Management System, it reverts back to the "normal" format. The
documents are in outline format so the new format has 1.0, 1.1, 1.1.1 etc
styles. It's easy enough to change the font (from Times New Roman to Arial)
after copying/pasting, but then we have to manually put all the step numbers
back in, reformat tables, etc. Is there a trick so that a pasted doc keeps
its formatting rather than revert to that of the document being replaced? I
tried experimenting with all sorts of "paste special" functions and none
worked. Thanks.

what DMS are you using? I don't think any DMS should reformat your
documents, or then it needs to be "taught" the new CI. In any case, you
probably have to pursue this with whoever is responsible for the DMS.
