I need to know how to save an XP document so that it can
be used by windows 98. Thank you for the help.

xp and windows 98 are operating systems. They are not versions of excel.
Please re-state your question.

I assume you are speaking of an Excel XP file(*.xls)

Just save it as an Excel workbook file. Versions back to Excel 97 should have
no problems with it.

Note: you could save it as a combinination of newer and later versions but
this increases the size quite a bit and makes loading slower.

See File>Save As>File Types for combo saves.

Windows 98 is an Operating System ans has nothing to do with Excel, other than
Excel is an Application running under Windows.

Perhaps you meant to say Excel 97?
