Simple Question about Reminders

Hello, I recently purchased Microsoft Office 2003 Student & Teacher edition
about two weeks ago. Therefore since I'm still in the process of getting
familiar with many of it's the basic concepts.

For Microsoft Outlook I'm currently having trouble trying to find out two
things:
1- Do reminders pop up also while Outlook isn't running? So far I don't
believe they do. This can cause problems because I might happen to miss the
exact time I'm soppose to be reminded of something, since outlook isn't
running. This wasn't a problem when using Microsoft Works Calendar, since
reminders would pop up regardless if the program was running or not. If there
is a setting in Outlook 2003 to help me with this, may someone please guide
me to it.

2- (If my first problem has a solution, then this isn't too important) Is
it possible to set Outlook so that it loads up as a background program (so
that it only shows in the taskbar) when windows starts up. I wish to do this
so that Outlook is always running, so that my reminders always pop up at the
time they're intended to. Since I've had a short history of missing the time
of some reminders, since Outlook wasn't running.
~ I've added a Outlook shortcut in the Start Up folder, and have
accomplished it to start up with windows, but would prefer if it would
automatically only show in the taskbar)

G'Day Darren,

1. Outlook must be running to service reminders.

2. In the Startup Folder, Right-click the shortcut and select
"Properties". Select the "Shortcut" tab. Half-way down there
is a combo labelled "Run:" that probably says "Normal Window".
Use the dropdown arrow and select "Minimised".

Outlook 2003 can also be minimized to the system tray rather than the
taskbar, which saves a lot of memory. Click the Outlook icon in the system
tray and make sure "Hide when minimized" is checked.
