Simple DNS update question

A simple DNS question I can't find the answer to:

- On a Windows 2000 network that uses static IP/DNS settings on all XP
workstations......
- In the advanced tcp-ip/DNS properties on a workstation, if you check the
"register this connection's addresses in DNS" box.....

Does it update the workstation's DNS entry on the server if workstations are
using y static IPs? Or does it only work only when DCHP is used?

Thanks anyone.......

The DHCP client service will register the IP regardless of whether it is
dynamic or static. For this reason the DHCP client must be running on
Windows machines even if they have static IPs.
